Our inspiring story
The fate with ethnic textile
In 2008, Truong Thi Thu Thuy joined a JICA project to improve the sewing skills of artisans in ethnic minority areas. When the project ended in 2011, questions remained: what would the upland women do next, and where would their crafts go?
Chie was born to answer them: to create a sustainable outlet for traditional brocade weaving, and to share the cultural beauty of Vietnam's ethnic minorities.
"Chie" is a common name for Japanese women, chosen to remember the JICA experts who helped us. "Dùpùdùpà" means "in the forest, in the mountains" in the Thai language.
